Chive Charities

Friends of Firefighters is thrilled and so appreciative to be a recent recipient of a donation from Chive Charities! Chive Charities is a nonprofit organization that raises money to then donate to various causes around the country. They focus on causes in need of public awareness and financial help, especially rare medical conditions, veterans, special needs education, and first responders.

Chive contacted us a few months ago to learn more about Friends of Firefighters before they decided if we would be one of their recipients. As they vetted us, we vetted them and found out that they have done amazing work helping all sorts of people and organizations across the country. They have donated to disaster relief efforts after Oklahoma tornadoes, Arizona wildfires, and Hurricane Sandy. They have donated to toddlers with rare developmental disorders, a young woman suffering extensive injuries from the theater shootings in Colorado, a father paralyzed from a car accident, and a young man who was shot 13 times while serving in Afghanistan. Since they donate to individuals or small groups, Chive is able to make a greater impact with their support.

When Chive decided they would be donating $50,000 to support the mission of Friends of Firefighters we were ecstatic. Friends of Firefighters is honored to be part of the Chive team. Read the full story from Chive’s perspective here.

Wellness Provider Profile: Rita Desyatnik, BCB

Get to know the great people behind our services! This month we interviewed Rita Desyatnik, our Biofeedback Coach.

What is your favorite place in New York? Central Park after a snow fall and Chelsea Market.

What is your favorite thing to do in your free time? Hiking and spending time with family and friends.

What book have you recently read? I recently read David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell, and would definitely recommend it. David and Goliath shows that sometimes being the underdog or at a disadvantage is actually better for success in the long run.

How did you get into your practice? I began work in biofeedback with Health and Performance International (HaPI), a biofeedback clinic in Manhattan. The first projects involved introducing biofeedback to performing artists and corporate employees, and I was hooked after I saw how the clients benefited from the program both personally and in their careers.

What do you like about working at FoF? It has been a humbling experience to work at FoF, especially experiencing how everyone is treated as family. Being a part of this ‘family’ and seeing how much good comes from this relationship is one of my favorite aspects of being part of the FoF community.

How can the service you provide help people? Biofeedback training enables people to learn self-regulation and relaxation tools that are crucial for health, well-being, and job performance for all. What is particularly special about biofeedback training is that the person getting the training is in complete control of their progress and application of the tools in their own life. For active firefighters, we train in proper breathing technique so that proper breathing becomes instinctive allowing you to focus on the job and conserve Scott Pak […]
