Friends of Firefighters Ride for Resilience

Pedaling for Purpose. Powered by Brotherhood.

Join Friends of Firefighters for the Ride for Resilience—a transatlantic movement proving that when firefighters ride together, no one carries the weight of the job alone.

The Power of Peer Support on Two Wheels At Friends of Firefighters, we know that healing rarely happens in isolation. Over our 25-year history, cycling has grown from a simple recreational outlet into a core pillar of our operational wellness model. Physical endurance combined with genuine peer connection breaks down the walls of stigma faster than almost anything else. Every mile pedaled provides a safe, informal space for firefighters to drop their guard, connect outside the firehouse, and process the cumulative trauma of the job on their own terms. Peer support remains our most vital bridge to long-term clinical resilience and suicide prevention.

From Grassroots Roots in Ireland to a Transatlantic Movement What began as a grassroots initiative among firefighters in Ireland has blossomed into an enduring global tradition of solidarity. Born from the deep, multi-generational bond between Irish first responders and our FDNY community here in New York, the Ride for Resilience honors a shared heritage of selflessness, sacrifice, and mutual respect. Firefighters from both sides of the Atlantic come together to push through physical challenges, proving across every border and department that we share the same unspoken duty—and the same need for community care.

Strengthening Our Community, Funding Our Mission The Ride for Resilience is more than an endurance event; it is a primary financial engine sustaining our independent, free, and confidential mental health services for active and retired firefighters and their families. Every registration, sponsorship, and donation powers:

  • 100% Free & Confidential Counseling: Guaranteeing that financial barriers or career concerns never prevent an active FDNY firefighter from getting help.

Expanded Peer Networks: Funding the Aaron Clark Peer Support Team to tackle substance recovery, suicide prevention, grief, and retiree isolation.

Family & Retiree Programs: Extending specialized care to spouses, children, and retirees who carry the unseen weight of the fire service.

The fire department is family, so you’ve got to bring that out and start sweating and crying together on the bike.

Every decision we make is shaped by a clear sense of purpose. Our journey has been anything but ordinary. Through every step, we've focused on staying true to our values and making space for thoughtful, lasting work.

2026 Ride for Resilience: Boston to NYC | Sept 6 - 10

This year, the Ride for Resilience comes state-side in honor of the 25th Anniversary of 9/11, and we have a community of nearly 200 first responders and civilian honor riders who will ride 343 miles over 5 days with the mission to raise awareness of the impact that cancer has had on the physical and mental health of our first responders. This year’s Ride for Resilience benefits three mission aligned organizations: Friends of Firefighters, Livestrong and the Boston Fire Cancer Foundation.
